1952 Brooklyn Dodgers National League Champion Banner

1952 Brooklyn Dodgers National League Champion Banner

The 1952 Brooklyn Dodgers were a powerhouse team that won the National League pennant with a 96-52-2 record and held a 3-2 game advantage against the New York Yankees in the World Series before the Yankees won the final two contests, at Ebbets Field, to take the Series in seven games. Presented is an eye-catching 18x23" felt banner that depicts a baseball infield and lists the names of the complete Dodgers' squad, including those of manager Charlie Dressen and coach Jake Pitler. The top of the banner reads, "Brooklyn National-League Champion 1952." From first base to third base, the names of the Dodger regular infielders are on a depicted infield (Hodges, Robinson, Reese, and Cox). Manager Dressen's name is shown in the third base coaching box and coach Jake Pitler's name is shown in the first base coaching box. The battery listed on the infield is Joe Black pitching and Roy Campanella catching. The remainder of the '52 Dodgers listed on the banner: Pafko, Roe, Erskine, Branca, Loes, Wade, Morgan, Lehman, King, Landrum, Billy Herman (coach and a Hall of Fame player), Snider, Moore, Shuba. Walker, Holmes, Nelson, Bridges, Furillo, Rutherford, Pfister. The banner's Hall of Famers: Campanella, who hit 22 home runs and drove in 97 runs that season; Hodges, who had 32 home runs with 102 RBIs; Robinson, who hit 19 circuit blasts, with 75 RBIs and a .308 batting average; Reese, who hit .272 in '53, with a team-leading 30 stolen bases; Snider, who cracked 21 homers, with 92 RBIs, and a batting average of .303. With over more than seven decades since this banner originated, the colors of the banner appear faded. Because of the passage of time, the banner exhibits some creasing, some occasional, small stains, and some cracking and crinkling in some areas. Overall, the banner is a fine remembrance of one of best of the iconic Dodgers teams of the late 1940s-1950s.
