1952 Soap Box Derby Helmet

1952 Soap Box Derby Helmet

From modest beginnings nearly 80 years ago, the Soap Box Derby race has become an American institution. Of course times, as well as equipment, have changed, but this item is a throwback piece to days gone by. This plastic driver's helmet bears a sticker for the 1952 race, "celebrating 15 years of a constructive activity for American boys" and includes a sponsorship logo from Chevrolet. (And if you're doing the math, the race was suspended for three years from 1943-45 due to World War II, making 1952 the 15th year). The helmet is light blue, lightweight plastic, with a cloth chinstrap with metal buckle, and the item is in NRMT condition.
