1953 Kid Gavilan Fight Worn Gloves For The Danny Womber Bout
On May 2, 1953 at the War Memorial Auditorium in Syracuse, New York World Welterweight Champion Kid Gavilan fought a non-title fight with tough Danny Womber. Gavilan fought only in spurts throughout the bout using his hooks, jabs and famous bolo punch only in the last seconds of each round. He failed to impress the judges and lost a unanimous ten round decision. Presented here are the fight worn gloves used by Kid Gavilan in this fight. These gloves are brown leather and have the Everlast manufacturing label on each wrist. In large block lettering on the backhand of each glove are painted in white paint the words, KID GAVILAN. This fight was promoted by notable fight promoter Norm Rothschild of Syracuse. Norm Rothschild promoted world championship fights of Kid Gavilan, Carmen Basilio and Gene Fullmer. These gloves were part of his collection having taken possession of them following this bout. He identified them in paint. The gloves come with a detailed LOA from the wife of Norm Rothschild, Ada L. Rothschild. LOA from Craig Hamilton of JO Sports, Inc.
