1953 Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Batting Helmet

The earliest batting helmet that we have ever seen. Black painted fiberglass shell with yellow "P" painted on the front. Only remnants of the padding remain inside. "Sandlock" written on a piece athletic tape stuck inside. Mike Sandlock only played for the Pirates one year, 1953. It marked his return to the majors after seven years away. EX condition with some game wear.
