1954-55 Ted Williams Game Worn Uniform with Harry Agganis Memorial Armband
One of the two finest Ted Williams shirts known, this is a pantheon piece that has not been on the market for over 20 years. Only the second Ted Williams complete uniform we have ever seen publicly offered, the other being his 1941 road uniform. That uniform is locked away in a vault-like collection and may never be seen or heard from again. Home uniform in beautiful condition with excellent wear from both 1954 and 1955. The shirt is embroidered "1954" in the tail yet it sports the black armband tailored in 1955 for "The Golden Greek" Harry Agganis. The local hero who stayed loyal to Boston, passed away in June 1955 at the age of 26. In death he has attained a rare cult status. The pants are tagged "1955" making the pair dovetail perfectly as Ted wore them both in 1955. Both the shirt and pants are autographed by Ted which is rare for game used jerseys/uniforms. The signatures are huge, neat and bold as they were signed in the 1980s-90s before Ted refused to sign such things in the later John Henry Williams era. Also, it is the "way" it is signed. He took this to the next level adding his immortal number. We can only fantasize about the moment when Ted was reunited with his uniform for the first time in decades, and being so blown away he took it upon himself or was willing to add the extra-added flourish of his number 9, number 9. Uniform is in beautiful condition yet has amazing including multiple team repairs. The uniform maintains the perfect balance of great wear and great condition; a difficult symbiosis in this field. It achieves this as well as any uniform we have ever inspected up close. Originally sold through Wolffer's Auctions in 1993, the original buyer has had it ever since. With the emergence of extremely high income people into the highest end of the market, pieces such as this are getting locked up in institutional-type collections and may NEVER be sold. Therefore, a Ted Williams shirt on this level may not be seen again for a long time. If ever.
