1954 Letters Regarding The Sale Of Roberto Clemente (2)
These two letters discuss the 1954 sale of future Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente from the Montreal Baseball Club, Inc. to the Pittsburgh Athletic Company, Inc. The first, dated 11/22/54, is a cover letter for seven copies of a sales agreement assigning Clemente's contract from Montreal to Pittsburgh for $4000.00. It is signed "BR" by Branch Rickey. The second, dated 12/15/54 and typed on Office of the Baseball Commissioner letterhead, acknowledges that Clemente's contract was selected by Pittsburgh from Montreal. It is stamped by Charles Segar. Both letters are EX with typical mailing folds.
