1954 Milan Indians State Championship Team Member's Jacket
In 1954, the success of the Milan High School Indians in winning the Indiana State Championship became the stuff of legend, eventually depicted in the movie "Hoosiers." This great varsity jacket belonged to team manager Oliver Jones and comes with an LOA from him. Only a few of these are known to exist and they were only given to team members. It sports a yellow chenille "M" on the left breast, has a basketball in the center and "MILAN," "MGR," and "54." On the right breast is another yellow chenille patch in the shape of the state of Indiana with "STATE CHAMPS 1954, O. Jones" and a basketball between the "19" and "54." There are classic leather sleeves, blue body with yellow trim, the sleeve cuffs have some fraying and there is a one-inch tear on the right sleeve. The zipper on front is still in fine working order, and there's a "Cincinnati Athletic Goods" tag sewn inside. It's not easy to find memorabilia from the tiny school with the improbable history, let alone something this significant.
