1954 Roogie's Bump Original 1-Sheet Movie Poster w/Roy Campanella

1954 Roogie's Bump Original 1-Sheet Movie Poster w/Roy Campanella

"It could only happen in Brooklyn," says the narrator of the film Roogie's Bump, a comedy/fantasy black and white movie made by Republic Pictures in 1954. Presented is a 27x41" original one sheet movie poster of Roogie's Bump. The plot involves a fatherless young boy, Remington "Roogie" Rigsby, who is a new-kid-on-the block in Brooklyn, New York. Roogie wants to play baseball, but the other kids in his neighborhood reject him. Roogie is visited by the ghost of Red O'Malley, a fictional former Dodger star, and O'Malley (with the same last name as former Dodger owner Walter O'Malley) does his magic, giving Roogie a small bump above his right arm and allowing Roogie the ability to throw a baseball with such force that Roogie's throw knocks down Dodgers catcher Roy Campanella. Eventually, Roogie pitches for the Dodgers and becomes a star. Eleven-year-old Robert Marriott starred as Roogie, and William Harrigan played O'Malley. Harold Young directed the 71-minute movie, and writing credits include Jack Hanley and Dan Totheroh. Parts of the movie were filmed at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, and Dodgers players Billy Loes, Carl Erskine, Roy Campanella, and Russ Meyer played themselves. The poster features an artist's rendering of a section of Ebbets Field, and the four billed Dodgers also have their photos on the poster. The poster shows some fading because of the passage of time. There is water damage across the bottom of the poster. There is a series of stray red marks on the yellow letters of the film's title that appear on an image of a baseball. There are also some loose canvas threads (from the canvas backing) around the edges of the poster. In the bottom right corner is the handwritten numbering of the poster: 54/407. After winning the National League pennant in 1952 and '53, the 1954 Dodgers finished in second place, but in the season after the release of Roogie's Bump, the Brooklyn Dodgers won the team's first and only Brooklyn World Series. The poster provides a nostalgic memento of the iconic Brooklyn Dodgers.
