1955 Brooklyn Dodgers National League Champions Pennant
Presented is a colorful pennant that celebrates the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers as National League Champions. The offering measures 8.1x27". It reads, "B'KLYN Dodgers National League Champions." On the left of the pennant is the image of a baseball, with "1955" displayed on the ball. This baseball is superimposed upon a multi-colored image of a section of a stadium, most likely representing the Dodgers' Ebbets Field. It appears that the major coloring of the pennant was originally blue, one that is now somewhat faded. Although the great Dodgers teams of the 1940s and 1950s won seven pennants, 1955 was the only time in club history that the Brooklyn Dodgers went on to win the World Series, in seven games against the New York Yankees. The '55 Dodgers had a starting lineup that included an astonishing five future Hall of Famers: Catcher Roy Campanella, first baseman Gil Hodges, infielder Jackie Robinson (playing third base in '55), shortstop Pee Wee Reese, and center fielder Duke Snider. The team also had two left-handed pitchers who made the Hall of Fame: Sandy Koufax, and (briefly) Tommy Lasorda, who had only a short time as a Major League player but became a Hall of Famer as a Los Angeles Dodgers manager. Managing the '55 club was another Hall of Fame Dodgers manager, Walter Alston. The pennant exhibits a few minor imperfections: some tiny paint loss in a few spots, some cracking, some fading on the white felt, and a few tiny stains. Overall, the pennant is in very good condition, especially so considering its age, and 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers memorabilia always adds to the interest, and value, of any sports collection.
