1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Championship Pendant

1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Championship Pendant

Displayed is a charming 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers' World Championship pendant. Despite winning nine previous National League pennants (the first in 1990), the Brooklyn National League franchise had never won a World Series. Brooklyn fans had some excellent teams in the 1940s and 1950s, but the Dodgers could never seem to get past the perennial American League pennant winners, the hated New York Yankees. In Game 7 of the '55 World Series, the Dodgers, with Johnny Podres pitching all the way, held a 2-0 lead over the Yankees with none on and two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. Pee Wee Reese, the Brooklyn Dodger shortstop in five straight World Series losses to the New York Yankees (1941, 47, '49, '52, and '53) fielded the Elston Howard grounder and threw to Gil Hodges at first base, and the Dodgers won. Immediately after the play, on NBC television, announcer Vin Scully intoned, "The Brooklyn Dodgers are the World Champions." The aging "Boys of Summer" had finally won the World Series, and when the franchise moved to Los Angeles after the 1957 season, those '55 Brooklyn Dodgers would remain as the only Brooklyn Dodger team to win the World Series. Those World Champion Dodgers had Hall of Famers in Reese, Hodges, Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, and Roy Campanella, and they were managed by Hall of Fame manager Walt Alston. The offered pendant is in the shape of a heart and measures approx. 1x1.5". Raised lettering on the face of the pendant is inscribed, "Brooklyn World Champions." The back of the pendant is inscribed, "1955 Dodgers." Also, on the reverse side is a "Dieges & Clust 14K" stamp. The pendant does not come with a chain. The pendant is in excellent condition, and it makes a great, vintage Dodger baseball remembrance, as the 70th Anniversary (2025) of the Brooklyn Dodgers' only World Championship is fast approaching.
