1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Series Champs Pennant
For fans of the Brooklyn Dodgers, for fans of the perennial underdog, and for fans of vintage baseball, what could be better than memorabilia that hearkens back to the Brooklyn Dodgers' only World Championship, achieved by the 1955 World Series Game 7 win over the New York Yankees? Presented is an 8.5x26" pennant that commemorates that '55 Brooklyn triumph. The '55 Dodgers were loaded with Hall of Famers: Roy Campanella, Gil Hodges, Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, and Duke Snider as starters, with left-handed Sandy Koufax as a pitcher. Tommy Lasorda, who briefly played in the regular season for the Dodgers in '55, later became the Los Angeles Dodgers' skipper and won election to the Hall of Fame as a manager. In the Brooklyn dugout in '55 was Hall of Fame manager Walter Alston. From 1941 through 1953, the Dodgers had played the Yankees five times and lost every World Series to the Bronx Bombers. Then, in '55, the aging Dodgers rode Roy Campanella's third NL MVP season into a National League pennant. In Game 7 of the '55 Series, the Dodgers obtained a masterful shutout from left-hander Johnny Podres, and had a legendary, potentially game-saving catch by left fielder Sandy Amoros as the keys to the Dodgers' 2-0 victory and the World Championship. The pennant displays simple elegance: White lettering and numbering on a blue background. It reads, "Dodgers World Series Champs 1955." The pennant has a few imperfections: loss of felt and a stain at the tip of the pennant, some minor cracking, some fading, a few tiny stains, some cracking and a few folds. When it comes to Brooklyn baseball, 1955 was a magical year, made even more important because after only two more seasons, the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles.
