1955 Nellie Fox 1st Home Run & 2500th Hit George Sosnak Baseballs w/Great Provenance
<p>Two histrionic baseballs from the career of this Hall of Fame great are the actual baseballs used in the important events. They were later painted by the exemplary baseball folk artist George Sosnak. 1) Nellie Fox's first home run ball of the 1955 season has been painted on all panels. Reads, "1st Chicago" and "Fox" on the sweet spot of this beauty. Furthermore, "Home Run Into Right Field Seats in Chicago Off Nixon of Red Sox April 29, 1955." Comes with photograph of Nellie Fox holding this exact ball with his wife in their family room in St. Thomas. 2) Nellie Fox 2,500th Hit Ball. Painted by the great George Sosnak in incredible detail with full box score of the game. Ball is personalized, "To Nellie Fox, Best Wishes, From Don Gutteridge - 1963." Apparently, Gutteridge had this done for Nellie, one of the most well-liked players in the game. Both of these baseballs came directly from the Fox Family several years ago. They have resurfaced to this auction after many years in a private collection.</p><p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><strong>UPDATE: The first home run ball is the actual ball he hit.The 2,500 hit ball is by noted artist George Sosnak and commemorates the 2,500 hit, but this is not the actual ball used for the hit.</strong></span></p>
