Game 5 was Don Larsen's perfect game; the final batter for Brooklyn in that game was veteran Dale Mitchell, as a pinch hitter. With a 1-2 count on Mitchell, Larsen threw a pitch that umpire Babe Pinelli, in the final game of his career, called a strike. Mitchell always maintained that the pitch was a ball.
