1956 Don Larsen Perfect Game Rosin Bag
From the only perfect game in Major League Baseball's postseason history, this is the exact rosin bag that accompanied Don Larsen on the Yankee Stadium mound on October 8, 1956, when he pitched the perfect game against the archrival Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series. Mickey Mantle's fourth-inning home run was all the necessary run support for Larsen on that afternoon, as the right-hander only needed 97 pitches to complete the perfecto, striking out Dale Mitchell for the final out and sending catcher Yogi Berra leaping into his arms. After the game, Larsen admitted to the media that he had "never had that kind of control in my life." The bag - which is still filled with rosin (some of which is loose), comes from the 1956 Yankees ball boy who retrieved it from the mound after the game. It was on loan and displayed at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and comes with several letters from the Hall to the ball boy. This lot includes two Larsen signed photos from the game (this exact rosin bag can even be seen in the photo!), as well as a ticket stub from the game that is VG but for some writing on the front. The rosin bag shows good use and has "OFFICIAL AMERICAN LEAGUE ROSIN BAG" in block print on the front.
