1956 Elvis Presley Twice-Signed Contract for his Harley Davidson Motorcycle

1956 Elvis Presley Twice-Signed Contract for his Harley Davidson Motorcycle

One page typed "Conditional Sale Contract" between a Harley Davidson Motorcycle dealer in Memphis, TN and Elvis Presley. Elvis purchased a 1956 Model "KH" for $1134. The contract is signed by Elvis in blue ballpoint. On close inspection, it is obvious that the pen he was using ran out of ink and he had to sign his name again over the existing light signature. Three vertical fold lines, a few small staple holes and a 1'' tear (repaired with tape) near the bottom border are typical on a document of this ilk. It is notable that this contract is dated 4 days after Elvis recorded "Heartbreak Hotel" for his new, major label. The Harley was obviously a present to himself for a job well done and to celebrate the prospects of a bright future.
