1957 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Signed Baseball w/Jackie Robinson (ex-Don Drysdale Collection, Family LOA & JSA)

Displayed is a baseball signed by the 1957 Brooklyn Dodgers, the last Dodger team to play in Brooklyn. During the last home game in the history of the Brooklyn Dodgers, on September 24, 1957, fans suspected that the team would move from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, but no one was sure. Famed Ebbets Field organist Gladys Gooding seemed to suspect the worse, judging from the poignant songs that she played between innings: "Am I Blue", "After You've Gone", "Don't Ask me Why I'm leaving", "Que, Sera, Sera", and "Thanks for the Memories". Two weeks later, the Dodgers announced their intention to move to Los Angeles. The famed team, "The Boys of Summer", was gone. This lightly toned Spalding Official baseball sources directly from the Don Drysdale Collection, and it has 21 signatures of the '57 Dodgers. The team finished in third place in the National League, and Drysdale went 17-9. The signature on the ball of Jim Gilliam is secretarial. The ball also exhibits the signature of Jackie Robinson, who retired after the 1956 season.: Jackie Robinson (HOF, retired), Roy Campanella (HOF), Don Drysdale (HOF), Gil Hodges (soon to be HOF), Pee Wee Reese (HOF), Duke Snider (HOF), Carl Furillo, Don Bessent, Sal Maglie, Charlie Neal, Rube Walker, Jim Gilliam, Dixie Howell, Carl Erskine, Clem Labine, Don Newcombe, and Roger Craig. The Spalding Official Baseball comes with a Letter of Authenticity from JSA Auction. In addition, the signed baseball also comes with a Hunt Auctions Letter of Provenance signed by Don Drysdale's sister, Nancy Fieux. Overall, the signatures generally are 6/10. Possessing this valuable signed baseball means having the autographs of the final Brooklyn team - including the signatures of five Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Famers - plus the autograph of the beloved Gil Hodges, much in the news because of his scheduled posthumous induction into the Hall of Fame on July 24, 2022.
