1957 Clem Labine Brooklyn Dodgers Contract (PSA)

1957 Clem Labine Brooklyn Dodgers Contract (PSA)

Four-page fold-over contract between relief pitcher Clem Labine and the Brooklyn National League Baseball Club for the 1957 season, signed by each party. The contract, which is dated January 11, 1957, has been signed in blue ink by "Clement W. Labine" (grading 10/10) and Brooklyn Dodgers vice president "E. J. Bavasi" (9/10). The one-year contract calls for Labine to receive a salary of $25,000 for the season. 1957 was the Dodgers' final season in Brooklyn and also Labine's final season with the club, making this the last Brooklyn Dodgers contract ever signed by him. Labine joined the Dodgers in 1950 and played eight seasons with the club. During that time he was one of the club's top relief pitchers. Even though saves did not become an official statistic until 1969, Labine is credited with leading the National League in saves in both 1956 and 1957. A key member of the Dodgers 1955 World Championship club, Labine retired in 1962 with 77 wins and a 3.63 lifetime ERA. The contract (8.5x11") remains in Excellent to Mint condition.
