1957 Harmon Killebrew Washington Senators Game Worn Jersey (MEARS 10)
During his 22-year career in Major League Baseball, Harmon Killebrew was a prolific power hitter who, at the time of his retirement, had the fourth most home runs in Major League history. He was second only to Babe Ruth in American League home runs, and was the AL career leader in home runs by a right-handed batter. Killebrew was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1984.If you thought Killebrew's Twins jerseys are hard to find, try to get your hands on a Senators one! The 1950s Senators jerseys are all but non-existent, especially Killebrew. This all original Killebrew zipper front jersey is simply a beauty. In the beginning of his career Killebrew wore number "12" and partway through the 1957 season he switched to number "3" and this "Set 1" jersey is proof. This jersey was worn during spring training in 1957 and could have also been used in regular season games in the first part of the year, but we cannot confirm that. Thankfully, this rare and unique jersey was never sent down to the minors and is all original, just as Killebrew wore it. This outstanding light grey jersey has "WASHINGTON" stitched across the front in dark blue on red tackle twill letters. The back features a large number "12" in the same dark blue on red style. In the collar you'll find a gray felt rectangular swatch that reads "Killebrew - 57", indicating the player and year. The front tail features a bright blue Spalding label and size 44 tag. Just below is the beautifully stitched "Killebrew - Set 1 - 57" in dark blue. This remarkable zipper front 1957 shows nice use but is still in remarkable condition and presents very well. This is by far the earliest Killebrew we have ever handled and is even signed in 8/10 Sharpie, simply amazing...
