1958-59 Cassius Clay Golden Gloves Finals PSA Graded Ticket Stub Duo
By the time he turned 18, legendary boxer Muhammad had won six Kentucky Golden Gloves championships, two National Golden Gloves championships, two national AAU titles and a gold medal at the Olympics in Rome in 1960. Four years later, he became the Heavyweight Champion of the World when he defeated Sonny Liston, a title he earned three times during his prolific boxing career.This lot features a pair of event ticket stubs from two different Golden Gloves championships in which Ali fought in the finals that were held at the Chicago Stadium on West Madison Street. Ali participated in National Golden Gloves tournaments in 1957 and ‘58 (losing to Kent Green in the finals), but did not win a championship until 1959 when he defeated Jeff Davis in the finals.The 1958 orange ticket stub earned an Excellent-Mint 6 grade by PSA and measures 3.75” high x 2” wide. The 1st Balcony ticket (Aisle 7, Section F, Row A, Seat 22) sports its original price of $2.75. The 1959 green ticket stub was graded Very Good-Excellent 4 by PSA and measures slightly longer at 4” high x 2.25” wide. The Ringside ticket (Aisle 11, Section G, Row R, Seat 9) originally cost $6 for admission. Though basically the same size ticket stubs, the encapsulated versions of both tickets vary. The ‘58 ticket stub, encapsulated, measures 3.25” wide x 5.5” tall, while the ‘59 encapsulation measures 4.25” wide x 7.25” high.
