1958 Dale Long Chicago Cubs Game Worn Jersey
<p>Chicago Cubs road jersey worn by first baseman Dale Long in 1958. The gray flannel jersey is lettered "Chicago" across the front and features the number "8" on the reverse, all of which are applied in blue on red felt. The uniform number, year, set number, and size ("8 -1958 - 4 - 46") are chain-stitched in black upon a gray strip tag in the collar. Located on the left front tail are a "Wilson size 46' label and an adjacent laundry tag. The jersey is all original and displays moderate-to-heavy wear, including a team repair to a large four-inch tear on the reverse. Long is best remembered today for setting the record for most consecutive games hitting a home run with eight. He accomplished that feat, which has since been tied by both Don Mattingly and Ken Griffey Jr., in 1956 as a member of the Pirates. Long hit .271 with 20 home runs and 75 RBI in 1958 with the Cubs. He finished his career in 1963 with 132 home runs, 467 RBI, and a .267 lifetime average. </p>
