1958 Hires Root Beer Complete Set (66)
Offered is a complete 1958 Hires Root Beer 66-card set set with tabs! Measuring approximately 2.25x7" with the perforated tabs, and were inserted one card per typical six-pack. The perforated tabs, encouraging the purchaser to "Join the Hires Baseball Club Today" were typically removed, and locating cards with the advertising tab in place is extremely difficult, thus they are very rare! This is a complete set from the original Bruce Yeko collection. Yeko was the first "full time" dealer who contacted Hires and purchased all the remaining cards, and unlike his purchases of other company regional issues, this haul of Hires Root Beer cards was quite limited. Virtually all the known Hires Root Beer card sets with tabs can be traced back to Yeko. Includes: #10 Ashburn (GD/VG, wrinkles), 13 Newcombe (EX, with loose but intact perforation), 17 Doby (EX/MT), 23 Reese (EX), 25 Mays (EX), 34 Labine (EX), 36 Mazeroski (EX/MT), 41 Zimmer (EX/MT), 42 Podres (VG/EX), 44 Aaron (EX/MT), 46 Thomson (EX), 55 Drysdale (VG/EX), 61 Snider (EX), and 67 Kluszewski (VG). While not as high grade as the Hires set Leland's sold in the Masters 2017 auction, complete original factory sets with tabs of this popular, scarce, and very unusual regional issue are very difficult to locate. Grades mostly EX to EX/MT, with some lesser at beginning and end of set. Almost all cards are nicer, but have dings in the upper left (or some n the right) corner likely from improper storage.
