1958 World Series Mickey Mantle & Warren Spahn Original Art - Published in The Sporting News
A classic of the genre, this pen & ink illustration was created by the great Washington, DC sports artist Vic Johnson and was originally published in The Sporting News. It depicts Warren Spahn from his Game 4 two-hitter against the New York Yankees in the 1958 World Series, noting that the "only guys to solve Spahnie's Slants were The Mick and the Moose," referring to Mickey Mantle and Moose Skowron. It is signed by the artist to JGT, who is JG Taylror Spink, publisher of TSN, and inscribed "Dear 'J.G.T' - Thank you for everything. Hope your health has improved." Originally from the Sporting News collection sold at auction several years ago, it measures 17x25" and is in EX-MT condition.
