1960 Cassius Clay Rome Olympics On-Site Poster
As an amateur on the United States Summer Olympics Boxing Team in 1960 in Rome, Cassius Clay was seen as a favorite to gain a gold medal. In the final, Clay came up against Zbigniew 'Ziggy' Pietrzykowski, "a portly coffeehouse keeper" from Poland who was somewhere between 25 and 28, depending on whom you believe. Clay was confused by the Pole's southpaw style and trailed going into the third and final round. Clay stood his ground and, using his incredible hand and foot speed, dominated the final action leaving his opponent dazed; he had won the gold medal. Offered here is a rare on-site poster for the 1960 Summer Olympic Games. The cardboard poster features a gorgeous image by Italian artist Armandotesta. Only minor edge and corner wear detracts, measures 27.5x 40".
