1960 Dick Groat & Bob Skinner Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Pants - World Championship Season
<p>Pair of Pittsburgh Pirates road pants worn, respectively, by Dick Groat and Bob Skinner, during the club's historic 1960 World Champion season.1) Dick Groat: A "MacGregor 34" label appears in the front waistband, along with a flag tag reading "Set 1 1960." The uniform number, size, and inseam measurement ("24 34 25") are chain-stitched in red upon a white strip tag located in the rear waistband. Groat was the only player who wore number "24" with the Pirates in 1960. These pants were originally sold at auction with Groat's 1960 road jersey, and the original auction tag remains attached to a belt loop. The pants display heavy wear, including light scattered staining on the front and reverse, and a small repaired tear on the front. Groat batted a league-high.325 with 2 home runs and 50 RBI in 1960 to help lead the Pirates to their first World Series victory since 1925. Following the season he easily beat out teammate Don Hoak for MVP honors, garnering an 82% share of the voting. A perennial All-Star, Groat finished his 14-year career in 1967 with 39 home runs, 707 RBI, and a .286 lifetime average.2) Bob Skinner: A "MacGregor 36" label appears in the front waistband, along with a flag tag reading "Set 1 1960." The uniform number, size, and inseam measurement ("4 36 29") are chain-stitched in red upon a white strip tag located in the rear waistband. Skinner was the only player who wore number "4" with the Pirates in 1960. The pants display heavy wear, including light staining on the front and reverse, and a few tiny holes on the reverse. Skinner was a key contributor to the Pirates' success in 1960, batting .273, with 15 home runs and a career-high 86 RBI. In the World Series, he had a hit in Game 1, but was injured when he jammed his thumb sliding. He missed the next five games, but returned for the historic Game 7 in which Bill Mazeroski won it for the Pirates with his dramatic ninth-inning walk-off home run. Skinner retired in 1966 with 103 home runs, 531 RBI, and a .277 lifetime average.</p>
