1960 Dick Stuart Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey - World Championship Season
Pittsburgh Pirates road jersey worn by first baseman Dick Stuart during the club's 1960 World Championship season. The gray flannel vest-style jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number 7 on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold felt. A MacGregor size 44 label appears in the collar. Located on the interior right front tail are a white strip tag bearing the year ("60") stitched in red and an adjacent flag tag reading "Set 1 1960." The jersey is all original and displays heavy wear, including scattered staining on the front and reverse, tears to the stitching on the letters, and frayed and loose threading to the gold-and-black piping running along the collar and arm holes. Dick Stuart wore number "7" during his entire 5-year career (1958-1962) with the Pirates. One of the key members of the 1960 club, Stuart batted .260 with 23 home runs and 83 RBI to help lead the Pirates to their first pennant since 1927 and first World Championship since 1925. Stuart was one the game's most consistent power hitters between the years 1959 and 1965, averaging 29 home runs and 95 RBI over that 7-year span. He retired in 1969 with 228 home runs, 743 RBI, and a .264 lifetime average.
