1960 Jackie Robinson Signed Letter (JSA)
<p>One-page typed letter, dated February 28, 1960, signed by Jackie Robinson. In his letter, on his personal letterhead, Robinson responds to a Mr. Norman Goldberg, who had requested Robinson's help in acquiring a student scholarship from Chock Full O'Nuts for one of his friends in Ghana. In full: </p><p><em>I am so sorry I cannot help your friend in Ghana. We here in the United States arrange for the students scholarships and transportation. We have nothing to do with the selections of the students. That is left entirely to officials in Africa. I am very Sorry</em>. </p><p>Signed "Jackie Robinson" in blue ink (grading 8/10). The letter (8.5x7.25") displays a horizontal fold line a a tiny area of discoloration in the upper left corner. Together with the original mailing envelope (GD). </p><p>The letter is accompanied by a one-page typed letter, dated June 1, 2010, from Norman Goldberg to our consignor, explaining the circumstances of his letter to Robinson in 1960. According to Goldberg, he had a pen pal in Ghana at the time and he was hoping that Robinson could arrange for him to come to the United States on a scholarship. Robinson was the vice-president of human relations at Chock Full O' Nuts in 1960. Full LOA from JSA. </p>
