1960 Oscar Robertson USA Basketball Olympic Gold Medal Diploma

1960 Oscar Robertson USA Basketball Olympic Gold Medal Diploma

This fabulous diploma was awarded to the incomparable Oscar Robertson for winning the 1960 Olympic Basketball gold medal. The 1960 Men's Basketball squad is considered to be one of the finest amateur teams ever assembled. The team, featuring co-captain Robertson and Jerry West, decimated their competition in Rome, winning all eight of their games by an average of 42.4 points. Robertson led the way for the team, putting up an even 17 points a game while the U.S. toyed with their overmatched rivals. The gold medal diploma has been framed and matted to 26x20", and possesses an excellent appearance with just a few small wrinkles. It was signed by the President of the Olympic Committee and President of the International Committee but the signatures have faded badly. The diploma reads, in Italian, "Games of the 17th Olympiad, Diploma, Oscar Palmer Robertson, Olympic Committee of the United States of America, Gold Medal, Basketball" and features the logo from the games on its left portion. The entire 1960 team was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a unit in 2010. Of course, Robertson was already enshrined there in 1980.
