1960 Ted Williams Signed Red Sox Contract
This is the original official Uniform Player's Contract between the Boston American League Baseball Company (the Club) and Theodore Samuel Williams (the Player) for the 1960 baseball season. The contract was executed and signed by Ted Williams and Red Sox General Manager S.R. Harris on March 1, 1960, then approved and signed by American League President Joe Cronin on March 28, 1960. The four-sided document stipulates that, "For performance of the Player's services and promises hereunder the Club will pay the Player the sum of $60,000.00 (Sixty Thousand Dollars)" for the year 1960. There is standard contract language printed on all four sides of the document, which has been folded in thirds for mailing and retains the postal fold marks. Williams' signature is written in blue pen and appears on the third page, along with the other signatures. The contract is in excellent condition with only a small area of creasing at the bottom edge, perhaps from some sort of paper fastener. This rare document will certainly make a unique acquisition for the discerning collector and is a stark reminder of how much things have changed in baseball over the last half century.
