1960 Vern Law Pittsburgh Pirates Signed Game Worn Jersey - Cy Young and World Championship Season

1960 Vern Law Pittsburgh Pirates Signed Game Worn Jersey - Cy Young and World Championship Season

Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey worn by mound ace Vern Law during the club's 1960 World Championship season. The white flannel vest-style jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number "32" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold felt. The uniform number ("32") and year ("60") are each chain-stitched in black on the left front tail. Also on the left front tail are a "Rawlings Hall of Fame Flannel" label and an adjacent "44" size tag. Law has signed the jersey in black marker (6/10) on the left breast. One of the buttons has been replaced, otherwise the jersey is all original and displays moderate-to-heavy wear. Vern Law enjoyed a long and successful 16-year Major League career (1950-1967, with two years off for military service), all of which was spent with Pittsburgh. However, his finest season occurred during the Pirates' 1960 World Championship season. Law won a team-high 20 games that year, against just 9 losses, while posting a 3.08 ERA. He also led the National League in complete games (18).  Those numbers later earned him the Cy Young Award at season's end. Law continued to shine in the World Series against the New York Yankees, winning both his starts in Games 1 and 4, and also providing five strong innings in Game 7, which the Pirates won in dramatic fashion on Bill Mazeroski's walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Two of Law's starts in the 1960 World Series took place in Pittsburgh, so it's possible this jersey was worn by Law in one or both of those appearances. This is an exceptional Pittsburgh Pirates 1960 game-used jersey worn by one of the club's key contributors during that memorable championship season.
