1960s Joe Adcock Game Used Bat

Joe Adcock was a power hitting first baseman who played in the Major leagues from 1950-66, primarily for the Milwaukee Braves. As a Milwaukee Brave, Adcock had three particularly notable games. On April 29, 1953, the right-handed batter was the first player to ever hit a ball into the center-field bleachers in the Polo Grounds, a feat later accomplished by only two players: Hank Aaron and Lou Brock. Adcock hit four home runs in a game at Ebbets Field on July 3, 1954, and by adding a double that day, he set a record for most total bases in a game with 18, a record that lasted until Shawn Green broke it in 2002. Adcock also hit the ball that broke up the no-hitter of the Pittsburgh Pirates Harvey Haddix's May 26, 1959, no-hitter at Milwaukee County Stadium in the 13th inning and led to a walk-off Braves' victory. Adcock's ball left the park and was seemingly a 3-run homer, but Hank Aaron, after seeing teammate Felix Mantilla score the winning run, mistakenly believed that Adcock's hit was a double, and Aaron, in heading back to the bench, passed Adcock on the base-paths, so Adcock was only given credit for a double and the Braves were ruled as winning 1-0. The bat was made by Adirondack out of Northern White Ash. It shows "302" on the label. "73 S" is stamped on the knob. It has a length of 32.8" and a weight of 35.1 ounces. Made of Northern White Ash Joe Adcock's signature facsimile has been burned into the barrel. The bat shows overall medium wear, with ball dents on the barrel.
