1960s Joe Frazier Fight Robe

1960s Joe Frazier Fight Robe

Joe Frazier had many memorable moments in boxing. It began with his winning a gold medal in 1964 at the Summer Olympics. He defeated Jimmy Ellis to claim the heavyweight title and beat Muhammad Ali in 1971 to unify the title. Frazier's nickname, "Smokin' Joe," came from his trainer Yank Durham when he used to tell Frazier before a fight, "Go out there...and make smoke come from those gloves." Offered here is a fight robe worn by Joe Frazier early in his career. A blue and red cloth, velvet, calf length robe with hood with the logo SMOKIN JOE on the back. This artifact has some moth holes and wear, but still perfectly intact. Specific fight worn in not known for lack of early career film. LOA from Craig Hamilton of JO Sports, Inc.
