1960s Ron Santo Wilson Gloves Cardboard Advertising Display (Signed)

1960s Ron Santo Wilson Gloves Cardboard Advertising Display (Signed)

Presented is an appealing, autographed die cut advertising display featuring Ron Santo, with the Hall of Fame Chicago Cubs third baseman in a Chicago Cubs uniform and wearing a Wilson glove. The exuberant Santo used to jump up and click his heels when the Cubs won a game. He played for the Chicago Cubs for the first 14 years of his career (1960-74), going crosstown to play for the Chicago White Sox in his final season. Santo was a two-way player who hit a lifetime .277 with 342 home runs and showed his stellar defensive ability by winning five Gold Gloves. After his playing career, Santo became a Cubs' announcer, sometimes criticized for being a "homer" because, as did former Cubs announcer Harry Caray, Santo openly rooted for the Cubs while on the air. "I want to be a homer," said Santo. "I'm getting paid for something I love to do. I would do it for nothing." Santo had diabetes from childhood, and yet he overcame his illness to make the Hall of Fame. Late in his life he lost both legs to the disease. The die cut measures 6.5x20", and it is matted and framed at 10.75x25.5". The die cut display is cardboard and was meant to be displayed in sporting goods stores to promote the Wilson product. Santo is shown wearing a Wilson glove. It is signed by Santo in neat and bold blue marker, and he has inscribed his number "10." The attractive die cut display seems to be almost in 3-D as the die-cut is placed forward of its blue background. The overall condition of the display seems to be around EXCELLENT.
