1960s Willie Mays Alaga Syrup Store Window Display
Presented is a 1960s Willie Mays Alaga Syrup window display. Mays, a Hall of Fame center fielder, is regarded by many sources as the second bast player in the history of baseball - ranking behind only Babe Ruth. Known as "the Say Hey Kid" for his tendency to use the expression "Say Hey" while a young player, Willie played in the Negro American league with the Birmingham Black Barons, and after rocketing through the minor leagues, he played in the National League for the New York/San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets from 1951-73. As the National League's Rookie of the Year, he helped the New York Giants to win the 1951 NL pennant. His marvelous over-the- shoulder catch, often referred to as simply "The Catch," was a part of the Giants winning the 1954 World Series. He was a leader of the Giants NL pennant winners in 1962. A five-tool player, Willie hit 660 lifetime homers. He was a 24-time All-Star, won four NL home run crowns, was a 4-time NL stolen base leader, won the NL batting title and was a 2-time NL MVP. He is the oldest living member, at 92 years old, of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The window display measures 9.75x 19.75". It reads, "ALAGA Syrup/Willie Mays, says, 'Say hey!. Love that ribbon cane flavor'." The display has a few tiny stains and two very small creases. It is in overall very good condition.
