1961-63 Nellie Fox Chicago White Sox Game Used Bat (PSA)

1961-63 Nellie Fox Chicago White Sox Game Used Bat (PSA)

Offered is a game used 1961-63 bat from Hall of Fame second baseman Nelson "Nellie" Fox, who played 19 Major League seasons. Fox broke into the Majors with the Philadelphia Athletics, managed by Connie Mack, in 1947. From 1950-63, he played for the Chicago White Sox, where he had his greatest success. In 1959, Fox was the American League MVP as he batted .306, with a .380 OBP. He was a key member of that "Go-Go Sox" '59 World Champions, as the White Sox played "small ball" to win the AL pennant and the World Series. Fox was a 12-time All-Star and batted over .300 six times in his career, with 2,663 hits. Teaming with great fielding Venezuelan shortstops Chico Carrasquel and Luis Aparicio, Fox won three Gold Gloves. After the 1963 season, Fox played two seasons for the Houston Colt .45s and Houston Astros, in 1964-65. After his playing retirement, he was a Major League coach. A young second baseman that Fox mentored, future Hall of Famer Joe Morgan, recalled Fox's influence: "I learned not only technique but a kind of artistry that only comes with real love of the game. "Feel the ball' Nellie would emphasize over and over again." The offered Nellie Fox bat is a Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger with Fox's facsimile signature etched into the barrel. The bat has a length of 34 inches and a weight of 31.5 ounces. Fox's number "2" has been written on the knob in black marker by an unknown hand. The bat shows excellent use with ball marks, and pine tar residue on the handle. The bat comes with a PSA LOA that indicates that the bat was used by Fox.
