1961 Boston Celtics World Champions Presentational Tray
Displayed is a 1960-61 Boston Celtics presentational candy tray given to Boston Celtics players in commemoration of that season's NBA Championship team. The 1960-61 Celtics had a 57-22 regular season record as the league's first place team in the Eastern Division. Boston won the Championship with a 4-1 victory in games in the NBA Finals against the St. Louis Hawks. The attractive white glass tray measures 7x9", and it stands about 0.5" tall. Lettering on the tray reads, "World Champions Boston Celtics 1960/1961". Twelve basketball images adorn the tray, one for each of the team's 11 players, plus one for team trainer Buddy LeRoux. Each of the basketball images has a player's facsimile autograph. Hall of Fame players on the tray: Bill Russell, Bill Sharman, Bob Cousy, Sam Jones, Frank Ramsey, K.C. Jones, and Tom Heinsohn. Other players named on the tray: Tom Sanders (in the Hall of Fame as a contributor), Gene Guarilia, Gene Conley, and Jim Loscutoff. Red Auerbach, in the Hall of Fame as a coach, also has his facsimile signature on the tray, as he coached these 1960-61 Champions. This tray is very rare, and as far as we know, none were made for commercial purposes. This one was given to player "Jungle Jim" Loscutoff - a bruising forward on the team, and the club's "enforcer" when anyone picked on smaller players, such as Cousy. The tray originally came from Loscutoff. The tray is in NRMT condition, and it provides vivid memories of one of the NBA's great dynasties, the mid-1950s-1960s Boston Celtics.
