1961 Cincinnati Bearcats Basketball Philippines Tour Poster

This paper poster is from the Philippines and is very scarce, being one of the rare ones still existing. The Cincinnati Bearcats lost Oscar Robertson to the NBA after the 1959-60 season, and yet the team was able to defeat Ohio State 70-65 to win the NCAA Championship the following season. Then the NCAA winners embarked on a tour of the Philippines, playing mostly local and All-Star teams in a series of games lasting several weeks. This is a poster designed as an on-site advertisement for the team's games. Bold red lettering at the top of the poster announces: "1961 Basketball Jamboree". Team members pictured in individual photos included: Ron Reis, Larry Shingleton, Dale Heidotting, Larry Elsasser, Tom Thacker, Paul Hogue, Jim Calhoun, Fred Dierking, Tony Yates, George Wilson, Ron Bonham, Mark Altenau, and coach Ed Jucker. These photos surround text which says: "Cincinnati Bearcats U.S. National Champions vs. The Philippines Best". Notably, general admission seats at the Araneta Coliseum went for merely 80 cents. The poster is framed and matted at 31.25x43.25". The poster does have some folds and some yellowing, but it remains a beautiful poster from more than sixty years ago.
