1961 Harmon Killebrew Minnsota Twins Game Worn Jersey
This Harmon Kellebrew Minnesota Twins jersey comes from the first year of the organization's existence (they had previously been the Washington Senators and Killebrew played for that team as well). This could, in fact, be Harmon's first home Twins jersey. The great flannel jersey has all of the right stuff: "Twins" in blue on red tackle twill is sewn across the front; the Twins patch on the left sleeve; Killer's retired number "3" in blue on red tackle twill on the back; "Killebrew" is stitched on a swatch sewn in the collar. The bottom edge of the swatch is loose from the jersey. On the front tail is the Wilson size 46 tag with "1961" year tag below. The jersey shows very nice use but no holes or rips. It is all-original and an A+ example! For the franchise's first year in Minnesota, Killebrew was named team captain by manager Cookie Lavagetto. He responded by hitting 46 home runs, breaking the franchise record he had tied two years earlier. He also accumulated 122 RBIs, batted a career-best .288, and slugged over .600 for the only time in his career. Killebrew finished the season leading the Twins in homeruns, runs, RBIs, total bases and walks, and tied for the team lead in triples. On June 12, 1961, Killebrew had the only five-hit game of his career but the Twins lost that game and finished the season 20 games under .500. Killebrew was named to both 1961 All-Star games and hit a pinch hit home run in the first game.
