The biggest sports story of 1961 was the race between Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris as both chased Babe Ruth's season home run record of 60. On June 26 of that year, Mantle slugged his 23rd of the season and 343rd of his Hall of Fame career off Angels right-hander Ken McBride in Los Angeles. Here's a full, unused ticket from that game, played at LA's Wrigley Field in the franchise's third month of existence. There are four holes punched in the lower grandstand ticket, which cost $2.50. The Angels blew four leads in the game, falling to the eventual World Champion Yankees, 8-6.
