1961 NY Yankees Team Signed Photo Presented to Player (PSA)
Wow! What a great find. Exceptional team-signed photo of the 1961 New York Yankees (16x20"). This was the type that was given to players. These Yankees were a powerhouse, winning 109 games for the pennant and beating the Cincinnati Reds, 4-1 in games, to take the World Series. The year featured an iconic home run race, as both Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris had their sights on Babe Ruth's single-season record of 60 homers. Mantle developed an abscess, lost time, and hit "only" 54. Maris eventually eclipsed Ruth (ignoring the infamous asterisk) on the season's final day. But Maris isn't the Yankee to hit the most homers that year. Okay, it's a trick question, but the three Yankee catchers out-homered him by 64 to 61 as Elston Howard and Johnny Blanchard each hit 21, and Yogi Berra launched 22. Sure, each of the catchers played other positions. In fact, Berra that year was mainly a left-fielder, but it shows just how much depth this team had. Whitey Ford went 25-4, and many of his games were finished by Luis Arroyo, who had a 15-5 record in relief. Such an Exceptional Piece. Signatures include Maris, Berra, Howard, Blanchard, Skowron, Lopez, Clete Boyer, Ford, Arroyo, Stafford, Turley, Manager Ralph Houk, and great coaches Frank Crosetti and Johnny Sain. Plus many more. The photo is on sturdy Bainbridge Board, Number 80. The Mantle signature is secretarial. The rest of the signatures are perfect. An absolutely Great Keepsake. PSA authenticated and comes with an LOA.
