1961 Pete Whisenant Cincinnati Reds National League Championship Ring

1961 Pete Whisenant Cincinnati Reds National League Championship Ring

1961 Cincinnati Reds National League Championship ring was awarded to outfielder Pete Whisenant. Elegant size 10.5 specimen features a genuine diamond on red set stone surrounded by "National League Champions" on the bezel. Left shank bears C Reds logo in relief above a baseball with crossed bats engraved with the year. Right shank has relief of Mr. Red mascot above another crossed bats with the year. Inside band has "Pete Whisenant" engraved along with Jostens 14k stamp. The 1961 season was the last of Whisenant's unspectacular career, though he was in the right place at the right time, having been released by the Minnesota Twins in May and being signed by Cincy just two days later. Used primarily in a pinch-hitting role, Whisenant was eventually released by the Reds on August 18, though he was included on the list of those receiving rings. Ring weighs 30 grams and is in NM condition, and comes with a letter from a former business partner of Whisenant who received the ring directly from him. Note that the letter mentions a display box but the box is no longer present with the ring.
