1961 Peter's Meats Complete Set of Original Boxes
In 1961, to celebrate the move of the Washington Senators from the nation’s capital to Minneapolis/St. Paul, local company Peter’s Meats issued its first and only set of baseball cards, checklisted at 26 cards. It was one of the last meat-related baseball card sets issued during that time period, and was issued on boxes of Peter's Wieners and Peter's Porkettes" pork sausages. Those cards issued on the Porkettes are much more scarce. Since there was very low regional distribution, and unlike most other regional food issues, there was NO redemption program for obtaining full sets from the company, complete sets of this issue are very rare. The local Twins fan had to eat A LOT of pork products to obtain these cards. What is even more rare are complete sets with the full original packaging. Offered is a full 26 card complete set of 1961 Peter's Meats baseball cards, with most of the cards coming on the original unused boxes, fifteen of which are on the much more scarce "Porkettes" brand of sausages. Printed on heavily waxed, thick cardboard measuring 4.63x3.5” when cut, the cards also served as packaging elements for Peters Wieners and Porkette breakfast sausages.
