1962 Elroy Face Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey

1962 Elroy Face Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey

Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey worn by star relief pitcher Elroy Face in 1962. The white flannel vest-style jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number 26 on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals have been applied in black on gold felt. Located on the left front tail are a "Rawlings size 42" label and the name, "Face," which is chain-stitched in black. Placed on the interior left front tail are a laundry tag and an adjacent flag tag reading "Set 1 1962." The jersey is all original and displays moderate wear, including heavy fraying to the manufacturer's label. Face was one of the game's top relief pitchers during the late 1950s and early 1960s, and a key member of the Pirates' 1960 World Championship team. He is best remembered today for his incredible 1959 season, when he posted a record .947 winning percentage by winning 18 games, against just 1 loss. Equally incredible is that he posted that record all in relief. Face was still at the top of his game in 1962, as he finished the year with an 8-7 record, a 1.88 ERA, and a league-leading 28 saves. He retired after the 1969 seasons with 104 wins, 191 saves, and a 3.48 lifetime ERA.
