1962 San Francisco Giants Team Signed Baseball
Just touch this baseball and you can see Willie McCovey lining out to Bobby Richardson to end the 1962 World Series. The '62 National League champion Giants had five future Hall of Famers. All of them and twenty of their teammates (twenty-five signatures total) signed with care between the stitches and around the Spalding stamp. Both ink and hide are in phenomenal (NRMT) shape for more than four decades of summers gone by. Man, is there history there, too. After the Giants beat the Dodgers in an emotional playoff, Game 7 of the World Series against the Yankees came down to Ralph Terry facing McCovey with Willie Mays on second and Matty Alou on third with two out in the ninth and New York clinging to a 1-0 lead. McCovey smashed a shot that was gloved by Richardson, silencing a packed Candlestick Park. Mays called the '62 Giants the best team he ever played on. Given the names on the ball - Mays, McCovey, Cepeda, Dark, Haller, Alou, Hiller, Pagan, Kuenn, Marichal, Larsen, O'Dell, Sanford, etc. - it is hard to disagree.
