1962 Smoky Burgess Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey
Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey worn by catcher Smokey Burgess in 1962. The white flannel vest-style jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number 6 on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold felt. Located on the left front tail are a Rawlings size 46 label and the name "Burgess," which is chain-stitched in black. A laundry tag and an adjacent flag tag, reading "Set 1 1962," appear on the interior right front tail. The jersey is all original and displays heavy wear, including light scattered staining, a few tiny holes, and a small tear to the "E" in "Pirates." One of the top hitting catchers of his era, Burgess batted .328 with 13 home runs and 61 RBI in 1962. Burgess, who was a key member of the Pirates 1960 World Championship club finished his career with 126 home runs, 673 RBI, and a .295 lifetime average.
