1963-64 Cincinnati Royals 1st Half Schedule Broadside
Presented is a 1963-64 amazing, rare broadside that presents the first half home schedule of the Cincinnati Royals at Cincinnati Gardens. The schedule measures 13.5x20.75". The Royals had a talent-loaded team in 1963-64. Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson, the Royals' point guard, was that season's NBA MVP. "The Big O" averaged 31.4 PPG, with 9.9 rebounds and 11.0 assists (leading the league). In other words, Oscar was a shade away from averaging a triple double PER GAME. Hall of Famer Jerry Lucas, the team's power forward, was the NBA Rookie of the Year. The Royals also had Hall of Famer Jack Twyman at small forward. Cincinnati finished second in the Eastern Division and lost to the Boston Celtics (that season's NBA Champion) in the Eastern Division Finals. In the 1963-64 season, there were only four teams in the Eastern Division, and so Cincinnati met Eastern Division rivals Boston, New York, and Philadelphia 12 times that season. Although each NBA team played an 80-game schedule that year, the Royals' broadside touts "32 Home Games." The reason for that is that the Royals played eight of their "home" games at neutral sites, including a few games at Dayton, Ohio and some in New York City. The broadside promises "Excitement - Top Action - Thrills." Even with inflation over the nearly 60 years since this broadside appeared, tickets to see the great Royal players, and such Hall of Fame visitors as Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Bob Petit, Elgin Baylor, and Jerry West, were a bargain. The top reserved seat cost only $3.00 and general admission was merely $1.00. The broadside has a bump in between "First Half." The broadside also has a few places where the color appears to have run and a few small, stray marks. Otherwise, especially considering the nearly six decades since the broadside was printed, the poster is in very good condition.
