1963 Dave Roberts Silver Glove Award
Despite playing only 91 career major league games between 1962 and 1966, David Leonard Roberts is likely the most established professional player you've never heard of. The left-handed first baseman toiled in the minors, and later in Japan, for 22 years, the most seasons of any player other than Hank Araon since 1952. Here's his Rawlings "Silver Glove" Award for 1961, which mirrors their Gold Glove display exactly except for the silver hue to the glove and ball. This display is in need of some repair as the glove has come loose, there is pitting to the ball, a chunk off the side of the plaque and other wear. Curiously, the "E" at the end of "GLOVE" on the plaque is missing. Silver Glove awards were the minor league cousins to the famed and similarly named major league fielding awards. Roberts made his big league debut with the expansion Houston Colt 45s in 1962.
