1963 Hector Lopez New York Yankees Game Worn Jersey
New York Yankees home jersey worn by outfielder Hector Lopez in 1963. The white pinstripe flannel jersey features the Yankees "NY" logo on the left breast and the number "11" on the reverse, both of which have been applied in navy felt. The name "Lopez" is chain-stitched in navy upon a white strip tag in the collar. Located on the left front tail are a "Spalding" label and an adjacent size tag reading "42." The year, "1963," is chain-stitched in navy directly below the manufacturer's label. The "NY" logo on the front has been restored. The bottom button is missing and the button directly above the missing button has been replaced. (It was common at the time for Yankees uniforms to be sent down for use in the minor leagues after the season.) The jersey displays moderate-to-heavy wear, including a small hole on the reverse and few light, scattered stains. Lopez was a productive player for the Yankees from 1959 to 1966, during which time he helped lead the club to five pennants and two World Championships. Lopez was the Yankees starting left fielder in 1963 and he finished the year with 14 home runs, 52 RBI, and a .249 batting average.
