1963 Masters Badge - Jack Nicklaus First Masters Win
He was known as "The Golden Bear" either because of his blond hair and burly body or because his high school teams in Upper Arlington, Ohio, were known as "The Golden Bears," but no matter the source, the nickname belongs to Jack Nicklaus, possibly the greatest golfer of all time, and certainly, at the very least, one of the greatest golfers in history. Displayed is a terrific golf offering, a 1963 Masters Badge from the first Masters ever won by Nicklaus, a victory that made him the then-youngest winner of the Masters of all-time. Nicklaus went on to win the Masters six times. His final Masters victory occurred in 1986, when Nicklaus was 46 years old, and he shot an incredible 30 of the back nine on the final day to record a 65 on the final round to become the oldest winner of the Masters, a record he still holds, and a perfect "bookend" to his Masters win in '63. In over a quarter of a century of professional competition, Nicklaus won 18 Major Tournaments, the most of all time and currently three more than the runner-up, Tiger Woods. Nicklaus also has 117 professional tournament wins. The offered 1963 Masters Badge measures 2" in diameter. It reads, in part, "Masters Series Badge 4578/Augusta National Golf Club/Est. Price $13.98/Total $15.00." The badge is not marred from any handwriting. The clean surface exhibits no folding or cracking. There are, however, a few minor scrape marks on the front. On the back of the badge are some spots of glue residue. The original safety pin, 1.4" in length, is in place at the top, and the badge could still be pinned to one's clothing and worn. This Masters Badge, in good condition, provides a valued remembrance of the first Masters win of Jack Nicklaus, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, and a golf immortal.
