1963 Pete Rose "Rookie" Game Used Bat (PSA 8.5)

1963 Pete Rose "Rookie" Game Used Bat (PSA 8.5)

Wielded by one of the sport’s most controversial players, this is the earliest form of a Pete Rose game used bat that you are going to find; in fact, this is the earliest one we have ever handled. Dating from 1962-63, this Hillerich & Bradsby model U1 is 34.5 inches and 30.1 ounces, displaying very nice use with ball marks, seam impressions, bat rack marks and some grain swelling as well as a repaired crack on the handle. A very vintage and faded number "14" is written on the knob indicating to us that this was used in 1963, as the labeling period with model number narrows it down to 1962-63, but Pete came to the majors in 1963 and acquired the number 14 shortly into the season, thus eliminating 1962 as an origin date. Rose proceeded to become baseball’s All-Time Hits King, and this marvelous bat is from the earliest professional days of the man known as Charlie Hustle. Per the accompanying LOA, it has been graded GU 8.5 by PSA, though we feel that this is a very conservative grade for such a wonderful specimen. Best of all, Pete Rose has once again become supremely relevant due to his broadcasting career.
