1963 Program & Two Tickets from JFK Assassination Game
November 23, 1963, the University of Iowa’s football players woke up in a Mount Vernon motel, had a team meal, and were about to board a bus that would take them to then-Iowa Stadium to play a game against Notre Dame. As the team was getting on the bus, it was announced that the game had been canceled. President John Kennedy had been assassinated the day before in Dallas. The decision to cancel the Notre Dame-Iowa game wasn’t made until Saturday at 12:30 a.m., but the Hawkeyes didn‚t learn that until about 10 a.m. From that game that never happened come these two tickets and program. Program shows light cover staining and some foxing; a few of the images on the inside have been clipped out. One ticket presents in EX condition while the other ticket has heavy staining. The following items are from a private collection of a long-time Notre Dame football fanatic. The quality of this collection is the finest that we have seen.It has taken a half century to procure these items and now is the first time that some of them have seen the light of day. Enjoy and help to preserve the rich history of the fighting Irish!
